Secretary / Treasurer

The Secretary-Treasurer's office of the American Society of Parasitologists (ASP) handles all of the day-to-day financial and membership business of ASP, communicates regularly with our accountants (Mize Houser Inc., Lawrence, KS), keeps investment records and invests endowment funds according to Business Advisory Committee and Council recommendations, maintains the Council and membership listserves, updates portions of the ASP web site (http://asp.unl.edu), and responds to routine correspondence regarding society business. The S-T assistant is Ms. Alice Foster. Allen Press Association Management Services, Lawrence, KS, processes all of our receipts and issues bills. Allen Press, Lawrence, KS, publishes the Journal of Parasitology, supported by your dues and subscriptions. Mize Houser, Inc., the accountants, issue checks and arrange for the annual audit. We have an internal system for ensuring that at least three individuals are involved in issuing payments.

The Journal of Parasitology is published electronically, with print options available to both ASP members and institutional subscribers. Members and students who are interested only in electronic access can join the society at a substantial discount. For new journal and membership rates, please consult the membership page. From the Business and Directory link, go to  ASP ON-LINE Business Office and follow the instructions for becoming a member or renewing a membership. Notice that if you are a student, then you will need to send a hard copy of your certificate of student status to the ASP Secretary-Treasurer.

Membership, of course, allows you to receive the Journal of Parasitology, a publication with a strong international reputation and a very long shelf life. Your library's subscription makes this journal readily available for your students, too. The Journal of Parasitology is also available through BioOne and JSTOR, the latter with a floating 3-year wall (all back issues available online up to the most recent three volumes). We strongly encourage you to help convince your library to subscribe via these two services, also.

If you want to contact the Secretary-Treasurer's office, my e-mail is dennisM@purdue.edu . Alice's e-mail is avfoster@purdue.edu . If you're writing about ASP business, it's probably a good idea to copy Alice on anything you send me, and vice versa. Please put "ASP" in the subject line of any e-mail.

The mailing address, phone numbers, and FAX for both Alice and me are:

Department of Biological Sciences
Purdue University
West Lafayette, IN 47907-2054 USA
TEL: (765) 494-8188
FAX: (765) 494-0876 - individual membership business only please.
Thank you for your interest in the American Society of Parasitologists!
